Education
Steve earned his Masters in Social Work degree from Adelphi University, Garden City, New York.  He began working with college students at Marist College, Poughkeepsie, New York where he was a Mentor to undergraduates in academic difficulty.  He began what became a career focus in the treatment of addictive disorders by serving a graduate internship in a methadone maintenance clinic.  After moving to Denver in 1988, he worked in the addictions field in a local hospital and a variety of managed-care organizations in the Denver area, where he also established a private practice.

Since joining the PHP staff in 2004, Steve has overseen the administration of the clinic’s first-offender alcohol diversion class – Focus on Alcohol Concerns (FAC); guided the creation and development of the more intensive STARS program (Striving to Achieve Real Success), a semester-long group program for students with more serious substance-use issues; developed and expanded the substance-use assessment and treatment capabilities of the clinic; and created a Substance Use Disorders (SUDS) focus area for graduate interns interested in gaining skills in the assessment and treatment of this spectrum of disorders.

Areas of Interest: Steve has been a trainer of trainers in Motivational Interviewing (MI) since 1994.  He provides workshops for organizations and professionals in the MI model.

The thing of place I’d most like to see is…don’t know…  Maybe I’ll know it when I see it.

My favorite thing about working at Wardenburg is

I really like the staff model of WHC services. I appreciate the opportunity to consult with staff from so many different disciplines and specialties.
