COURAGE, the CU Rape and Gender Education Program, is a peer education

program sponsored by the Community Health Education Department of Wardenburg

Health Center and UCSU.

The purpose of COURAGE is to raise awareness about sexual assault, stalking,

intimate partner violence and gender as it relates to those topics.  Our main emphasis

is to bring education to the CU campus that will aide in reducing victimization and

creating a supportive enviromnment for survivors.

COURAGE peer educators provide a variety of interactive educational workshops

and small group discussions for the CU community. On request, these workshops

can be tailored by topic, format, and length to suit the needs of a particular group.

COURAGE educates about complex and difficult issues, although we are focused

on teaching people skills for positive behavior. Some examples of workshop topics:

  • What is consent for sex and how do you get it
  • Gender role socialization and gender violence
  • How to be an effective bystander in potentially violent or hateful situations
  • What constitutes a healthy intimate relationship
  • How does racism, sexism, and homophobia intersect with sexual violence
  • Specific information about sexual assault
  • Specific information about intimate partner violence and stalking
  • Bystander intervention and ally development skill building

We provide resources and offer referrals to other organizations during and after workshops.

Contact the Courage office at 303-492-2937 or e-mail us at Courage@colorado.edu

to schedule a workshop for your group.
