CU-Boulder Guardian Scholars Program

Launched in 2008, the University of Colorado at Boulder's Guardian Scholars Program exists to enable former foster youth to earn their undergraduate degree at Colorado's flagship university.

• We provide you with the support to deliver a quality university experience for each Guardian Scholar.
• We serve as a resource by assisting in your development and equipping you with the educational and interpersonal skills you will need to become self-supporting community leaders, role models, and professionals in your chosen field.
• We will empower you to succeed in your college career and beyond–with a broad range of services and experiences that will support your transition to college.
• Our goal is to assist in preparing you to become a knowledgeable and engaged citizen.
A starfish story

One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean.

Approaching the boy, he asked, "What are you doing?"

The youth replied, "Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them back, they'll die."

"Son," the man said, "don't you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can't make a difference."

After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said "I made a difference for that one."
