The German Studies program has received a generous gift from the estate of Leonhard Edwin Baak (1909-1998) to establish the Leonhard E. Baak Memorial scholarship. Dr. Baak received his PhD in German from the University of Colorado Boulder in 1953, and served as a professor of German at St. Olaf College (Northfield, MN), College of Emporia (Emporia, KS), and Morningside College (Sioux City, IA). The scholarship funds will be awarded yearly to students majoring in German Studies; the first scholarships will be awarded in 2017.
