In the Classics program students can explore studies in Greek and Latin languages and literatures, ancient history, ancient art and archeology. The MA program offers concentrations in Greek, Latin, classical antiquity, classical art and archeology and the teaching of Latin, while the PhD is offered in classics.

Degree Details

Requires a minimum of 30 course credits of graduate course work (5000 level and above) with a thesis, or 30 course credits without a thesis.

Requires a minimum of 42 semester hours of graduate course work, 5000 level and above, including four graduate seminars (one each in Greek and Latin), two courses in ancient history, one course in Greek or Latin prose composition, and courses in a special field; 30 hours of dissertation credit, and reading knowledge of German and one other modern language (usually French or Italian). Up to 21 semester hours of graduate credit from other institutions may be transferred.

Admissions Requirements

  1. Hold a baccalaureate degree or its equivalent from an accredited college or university.
  2. Have an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75.
  3. Submit three letters of recommendation.
  4. Submit a writing sample as well as a statement of purpose with their applications.

GRE Scores 

GRE test scores are required.
