Campus Transitioning Guide

Helpful Tips & Problem Solving

This section is a list of tips to keep in mind when working with other campus departments or offices. Have you found anything helpful that you'd like folks to know? Send in your tip or advice and we can add it to the list.

If you encounter difficulties transitioning on campus or navigating the campus system, you can always contact us. As an advocacy center we are available to support and advocate for individuals on campus. If you have any problems with discrimination or harassment, or would rather speak to another office than ours, please consult the list of resources at the bottom of the page.

  • People who transition do so for a variety of reasons and at many different paces and in many different ways. Never feel that you must transition in a certain way, by a certain time, or even at all!

  • Many of the services you may request as a transitioning person on campus, like name changes, are also done for cisgender people. Therefore never feel pressured to justify anything you are requesting or to out yourself if you would rather not.

  • Remember that you are not required to educate people about trans issues. If anyone is being difficult, you can refer them to us as an educational resource.

  • When working with anyone who is being problematic or causing trouble, you can always ask to talk to a manager or supervisor.

How to Report Discrimination and Harassment

If you have any questions on which office to go to or what to do, please feel free to contact us. While we are a mandatory reporting office, we can work with you to at least find out a next step or where to go to discuss an incident or concern.
