The Hebrew program, and GSLL in general, have been greatly bolstered by an exciting new development at CU. In fall 2008 the Program in Jewish Studies was formalized and given an administrative home with the appointment of a Dr. David Shneer, its first permanent director and Jamie Polliard, the first program administrator (http://www.colorado.edu/jewishstudies/). The Hebrew program and Jewish Studies have been working together, and Hebrew has received wonderful support from the new program.
Hebrew Club
On September 25th we launched the Boulder Hebrew Club. The Club is coordinated by Zilla Goodman, head of the Hebrew program, and is run by a committee of students. The launch was very successful with about 45 students in attendance. The Club meets every Thursday between 5:00 and 7:00 pm, is open to all, and average attendance numbers have been between 20 and 30. Participants come with all levels of Hebrew to speak the language, get tutoring help from more advanced students, play games in Hebrew and, once a month, watch an Israeli movie.
