Possible collaborations

I know that a lot of people are working on virtual fieldtrips for their individual courses. But I'm wondering whether some collaborations are possible in this area to build more ambitious projects. Something like "profile" trips that would cut across the physical or culture geography of North America? Projects that would allow comparisons and contrasts between different ecological regimes or regions, etc.?
