During the first session of the 1997 workshop it was suggested that the name of the working group be changed to Virtual Field Studies. Some feel that field trips have negative connotations, that is, they are just "trips" with little study of process to explain what is being seen. It might be more appealing to NSF, the funding agency for the project and academic administrators if these activities are called field studies. Please weigh in on this issue.
