Yes, I can see both:
1) Applets that could be used to demonstrate basic operations. Having them arranged in this way would allow instructors to mix and match applets to meet there specific needs. For the different applets there might also be:
2) Links to datasets with real data that, for analysis, require using the analytic functions being discussed.
This way instructors could use the Java applets to teach the concepts and know that there was good material for the students to use to perform further analysis.
You know, we might try keying the applets to sections of the new Core Curriculum in GIScience. Then the instructors would even have access to overviews of the materials.
