The first Virtual Geography Department workshop was held at the University of Texas at Austin from June 2 to June 15. Thirty-five geographers from across the country traveled to Austin to participate. The workshop was held in the Department of Geography's Environmental Information Systems Lab. Morning tutorials covered topics ranging from the technical aspects of World-Wide Web authoring using HTML to graphic design principles for the Web to pedagogical strategies, while afternoon sessions concentrated on project planning and the development of a system for reviewing and evaluating materials produced for the Project. Presentations were made by Sarah Bednarz, Jeremy Crampton, Shannon Crum, Ken Foote, Susan Hanson, A. David Hill, Gail Ludwig, Jim Proctor, and Ruth Shirey.
