executive summary - A short (2-3 page) report outlining the findings of a research project. An executive summary succinctly states the goals, procedures, and findings of a project.

heat island - An area of higher temperatures in the center of a city caused by high concentrations of concrete, brick, an asphalt, and a reduced presence of trees and vegetative ground cover.

impervious cover - Ground covers such as concrete, brick, and asphalt which do not allow rainwater to soak into the ground. A large amount of impervious cover in a region can contribute to flooding and water-table damage.
