Glossary

County subdivision: The Census Bureau uses this term to refer to municipalities.  Slippery Rock Borough, Slippery Rock Township, and the city of Pittsburgh are examples.  The unincorporated hamlet of London, near the Prime Outlets at Grove City, is not a unit for which the Census Bureau collects data.

Per capita income:  The amount of income for a county divided by its entire population.  Slippery Rock's 1990 pci was $9,370. On the other hand, Slippery Rock's 1989 average household income was $29,454.

Quartile: Any of the values which divide a frequency distribution into four groups of equal size.
