Gary L. Gaile, Ph.D., UCLA, 1976, is a Professor interested in development studies, urban issues, Africa, food security, microenterprise approaches to poverty reduction, and methodological options.  He has worked with the Harvard Institute for International Development and been a Visiting Scholar at Cambridge University and the London School of Economics.  He has just co-edited Geography in America at the Dawn of the 21st Century and is co-editor of Urban Affairs Review.  He directs the Developing Areas Research and Teaching (DART) Program.  He is a pragmatist invested in solving development-related problems.  He's also large and has a unique sense of humor.
