Site Three - Downtown Manitou Springs

This location is in the heart of the tourism district of Manitou Springs. Many buildings hang over the creek or are built directly over the creek. Please answer the following questions, and be sure to use data and information from other parts of the exercise to support your answers.

Questions:

(1) Many shops, like the restaurant in Fig. 1, hang over the creek. The height of the 100-year flood in this location will be near 20 to 25 feet above the stream level. If you were the owner of this business, would you consider relocating? Why or why not?

(2) To determine the threat posed to the Spa (Fig. 2a), estimate the height of the flood at the confluence of Ruxton and Fountain Creeks (Fig. 2b). How did you arrive at this estimate?
