Statement of Purpose: The
International Institute for Sustainable Development was
established to assist individuals, groups, and organizations
who help village residents or local communities to use
appropriate technologies and process for sustainable development.
IISD works across disciplines, institutions, and national
boundaries to facilitate community-based development.
Mission Statement: To train
development practitioners in participatory practices to
facilitate sustainable community and village-based development.
The philosophy we share with Village Earth is village
and community priorities must be decided by the villagers
and not by an outside authority. Only when village residents
direct their future will they own it. And only then will
they be able to manage the development process that will
bring them out of poverty.
