European Union in the News

 

 

Due in recitation February 18-22

 

Objectives:

 

1. Increase familiarity of issues surrounding the European Union.

2. Practice research skills.

3. Critically examine how issues are portrayed in the popular media.

 

Assignment:

 

1. Find a "feature length" (longer than 1000 words) article on the

European Union from one of the following sources:

The Economist

Newsweek

Time Magazine

US News and World Report

 

You may have to skim a couple of articles before you find one that is

suitable.  Read the questions below before you pick your article.

 

Some of these magazines are indexed (with complete articles) on

Lexis-Nexis or Infotrac, which is available on CU's Chinook online catalog.  Others

have on-line versions.

c. What is the slant of the article toward the EU--pro or con?  How can you

tell?
