Course Overview

This course introduces the theory and practical use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The course emphasizes geographic information and how it is represented on and analyzed with computers. The lecture portion of the course focuses on the theoretical underpinnings of GIS while the lab portion provides the opportunity for students to apply the lecture concepts and techniques. By the end of the course, students are expected to understand elementary GIS theory, have a working knowledge of ArcGIS, and be able to develop GIS-based solutions to geographic modeling and analysis tasks.
