About Me
I am currently a student at the
University of Colorado, graduating in May 2006 with a BA in Geography.
As a native to Chicago I came to Boulder in the fall of 2002 to start my
college career. Living in Boulder for my fourth year, it is
certainly interesting to think about how much influence 'places' truly create.
I enjoy being outside, especially in the mountains with a snowboard strapped to
my feet. I started my education as an engineer at CU, but found that
studying
geography was far more interesting and enjoyable. I am most interested in how GIS and cartography
can be used to analyze and communicate geographical patterns and
relationships. More specifically, what is the importance of these
technologies as they apply to advances in urban planning and new forms
of global development? After I graduate this spring, I will start
working as a global logistics assistant for
Exide Industrial Power.
The job requires you to determine which countries to export to,
what international trade tariffs and policies these countries have,
how you are going to get the materials there most efficiently ( by
plane, boat, what routes to take, who will ship them, how long will it
take, etc) and which cities will be your
distribution centers? This requires a broad understanding of
the interaction between places, nations, and people, all of which are
influenced and separated by space.
Understanding elements of cartography and how to use maps is critical to
communicating these types of problems. |
