Permafrost and Periglacial Processes
Since permafrost and periglacial processes are a key aspect of boreal environments, it is important to understand them prior to investigating their impact on human activities. This section is intended to provide a basic description of both permafrost and selected periglacial processes.
The Permafrost section discusses a range of topics including what permafrost is and the differing types of permafrost, the fundamental relationships between the ground and atmosphere that cause permafrost, and where permafrost may be found.
The Periglacial Processes section discusses a number of different processes and the resultant landforms. For example, ice wedges, pingos, and thermokarst will be discussed.
