Course Features that Students Value

In our teaching, we all strive to find effective and efficient ways to more fully engage students in learning. In this month's Memo to Faculty, we invite you to read Richard Light's brief essay presenting several course features students perceive to be most valuable to their learning. These common elements all reflect the importance of faculty recognizing opportunities to teach when students are most open and prepared to participate.

The three features students identified as most valuable to their learning are providing solutions to or grading of assignments quickly, opportunities for revision and regrading of assignments, and frequent pre-scheduled exams and assignments. Light describes the reasons students perceive these elements to contribute to their learning.
