Digital Image Collection
The VRC provides digital images which are cataloged and available online in a database to support the teaching and research in the Department of Art & Art History. Click here for information and policies about our digital image collection.

Slide Collection
The VRC still maintains and circulates its collection of nearly 400,000 35mm slides. There are images available in the slide collection that are difficult or impossible to obtain elsewhere. Therefore, it remains a valuable resource for our faculty and students. As our priority is building our digital image collection, we avoid adding slides to the collection unless required by one of our faculty members.

Scanning Stations
The VRC offers self-serve scanning stations to help meet the imaging needs of the department. We also provide training in digital imaging and digital portfolio preparation.

Each of the two scanning stations includes the following:
• iMac (Intel Core 2 Duo) with Adobe Photoshop
• Flatbed scanner: Epson "Perfection 4490," letter size, optical resolution 4800 ppi
• Slide scanner: Nikon "Coolscan V ED," optical resolution 4000 ppi

Policies and Procedures for Using the VRC Self-Serve Scanning Stations:
1) First come, first served, with a three-hour limit per session during VRC hours. Students may use the equipment during VRC hours only.
2) This equipment is to be used for digital imaging related to studies in the Department of Art and Art History exclusively — no e-mail, word processing, etc. Students must be scanning materials for Art and Art History coursework.
3) Lia Pileggi will provide the username and password. Prior to using this equipment, users must schedule a brief training session (or demonstrate proficiency with hardware and software) at least a day in advance: 9:00 a.m - 3:00 p.m., Mon. - Fri. For an appointment, please contact Lia Pileggi.
4) DO NOT scan slides from the VRC slide collection. Personal slides ONLY.
5) Plan ahead in the event of occupied scanning stations or unexpected VRC closure.
6) Users must observe copyright laws and understand the basic tenets of Fair Use. For information about copyright and fair use, please see the VRC Copyright page.

Software Support
The VRC offers training in the use of Luna Insight, the software in which our digital image collection is provided, ARTstor and ARTstor's Offline Image Viewer presentation software, PowerPoint, and Photoshop.

Computing Stations
The VRC provides two computers stations for general computing, such as preparing Offline Image Viewer (OIV) and PowerPoint presentations, word processing, checking e-mail, etc. There are no printers provided in the VRC.

Visiting Artist Lectures & What Follows...
