VRC DIGITAL IMAGE COLLECTION (under construction)
The Art and Art History Visual Resources Digital Image Collection is the new teaching and research image collection of the Department of Art & Art History, University of Colorado at Boulder. It comprises increasing numbers of images depicting historical and contemporary art, architecture, and other visual and material culture from around the world. Please see our 2006-2007 News Archive for more information about the CU system-wide process by which the software platform Luna Insight was chosen, and the ways in which system-wide collaboration is making more content available to users across the University of Colorado and affiliated Auraria institutions on the Downtown Denver campus. For copyright reasons, access is limited to these communities.
The Art and Art History Visual Resources Collection is a founding member of the University of Colorado's Digital Image Collaborative, an image buying and sharing consortium. The other members are the Auraria Visual Resources Collection (Downtown Denver campus) and the College of Architecture and Planning's Visual Resource Center (Boulder and Downtown Denver campuses). Each unit purchases and creates digital images to meet its immediate curricular needs, then shares these images with the entire University of Colorado, as well as the Auraria institutions on the Downtown Denver Campus. Luna Insight is used by all three collections to provide faculty, staff, and students a convenient and consistent way to access this shared content. These collections, other CU collections, and publicly shared collections from institutions around the world who use Luna Insight are available through a web browser in the University of Colorado Digital Library (CU-DL). CU-Boulder faculty members may contact Elaine Paul for the Luna Insight Java client, which provides more functionality than the browser version, including cross-collection searching and image exports. Luna Insight will soon be released as a browser-only version, which will offer all of the functionality currently available in the Java client.
Art and Art History faculty members wishing to request digital images for inclusion in the database may find policies, instructions, and the appropriate request forms here.
