Syliva LaBel
Syliva has a unique perspective of the world, born prematurely in 1957, her eyesight was damaged as a result of the incubators at that time; as a result Syliva is legally blind. Syliva's visual-impairment had not however discouraged her from entering the visual-art world. Most recently, after discovering the tactile works Jan Shendel, Syliva's works have literally taken on new dimensions -- using textured paints her works can now be enjoyed by visually impaired patrons. Syliva comes from a background of adversity, despite being born to a 14-year old mother and later moved through 14 foster homes where she suffered various forms of mental and physical abuse both her art and demeanor have remained positive. Her spirituality, she claims, influences her work and life.
