Sculpture
The Sculpture area encourages an experimental and interdisciplinary
approach to art making. Our curriculum synthesizes a commitment
to the studio and the community, emphasizing the interplay between
concept, material and context. The faculty work one on one with
graduate students to help develop each individual’s ideas
based on individual, historical, and theoretical perspectives. Sculpture
faculty represent varied points of view, however each is thoroughly
committed to helping develop students into creative, ambitious,
and engaged artists.
The Sculpture Area occupies four rooms of approximately 11,000 square feet of studio/classroom space. Approximately 2,800 square feet is devoted to seven graduate sculpture studios that range from 350-400 square feet each, while 7,000-8000 square feet is devoted to classrooms and open studio and 600-1,200 square feet for storage. The space is divided as follows:
Room C102, Sculpture offers 3,000 square feet of space with windows on the east side with a small installation space and exhibition wall for presentation of finished works for critique. There is also a 400 square foot graduate studio in the SE corner and storage space for materials like plaster latex chicken wire, alginate, clay, etc.
Room C140, Sculpture offers 3,000 square feet of space with windows on the east side. There are three 400 square foot graduate studios, two along the east wall, one on the south wall. Wall space is provided for presentation of finished projects for critique. C240A, Professor Yumi Roth’s office and studio.
Room C160, Graduate Sculpture offers 3,000 square feet of space with windows along the east wall, There are three 400 square foot graduate studios, two along the east wall, one on the south wall. Wall space is provided for presentation of finished projects for critique. Upstairs in C260, Professor Garrison Roots’ studio space and 3D animation computer lab that offers six computer work stations with Photoshop, Illustrator, LightWave3D and Maya software as well as access to the internet.
C1B02, The Metal Shop offers 2,000 square feet of space with windows on the south and east sides for metal applications. The shop features equipment for steel fabrication as well as a new metalsmithing studio.
