The Drawing and Painting area offers courses in a wide variety of media which provide the motivated art student the opportunity to explore and practice the disciplines of painting and drawing in the context of their history and theory. As in most of the other studio divisions, the Painting and Drawing area emphasizes the conceptual aspects of these media over technical proficiency. While providing the student with a sound and environmentally conscientious use of conventional & experimental media, these courses challenge the student to develop ideas or styles which best suit individual artistic goals.

Printmaking

The program in Printmaking emphasizes exploration in both the traditional printmaking techniques, as well as processes that are non-toxic whenever possible. The printmaking faculty encourages the development of concepts and individual directions through an interdisciplinary approach. Students learn technical skills to then fulfill their artistic visions in the following media of intaglio, relief, lithography, monotype, mono printing and papermaking as well as computer imaging as related to image, ideas and medium. The studios are equipped for all processes related to each medium with 3 intaglio presses, 3 litho presses, a computer lab with 8 G5s and 2 G4s and 4 large format Epson printers.
