Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans

The University of Colorado Boulder participates in the William D. Ford Direct Loan program (known as Direct or Stafford Loans). The lender is the U.S. Department of Education rather than a bank or other financial institution. You are automatically considered for a Direct Loan after submitting your FAFSA.

Federal Graduate PLUS Loans

The Federal Graduate PLUS Loan is available to students enrolled at least half-time (3 credit hours) in a graduate or professional program and who meet all of the other general eligibility requirements for the federal student aid programs.

Private Loans

Private student loans or alternative loans are available to students who are not eligible for federal loans or who need assistance beyond their financial aid eligibility. These loans are made through banks and other financial institutions and are subject to their terms.

View our Student Loan Code of Conduct for our guiding principles in ensuring the integrity of the student financial aid process.

Track Your Loans

Watch our video to learn where to find your total federal student loan balance, loan servicer contact information, and how to update your address using the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS).
