National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (National SMART Grant) The Higher Education Reconciliation Act of 2005 created the Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) and The National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (National SMART Grant) Programs. For more background information on these programs, please see http://www.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ope/ac-smart.html. Award Amount: $4000/year for both third- and fourth-year undergraduates. To be eligible for the SMART Grant, a student must:
The Office of Financial Aid will review your course registrations to verify that you are registered for at least one program specific course. Failure to enroll in at least one program specific course required in your major will result in cancellation of your National SMART Grant. All SMART Grant recipient course registrations will also be reviewed following the term census date to verify that you remained enrolled in at least one program specific course. In order to ensure that your SMART Grant payment is not delayed or cancelled, we encourage you to register for and remain enrolled in at least one program specific course required in your major. Lastly, if you are in doubt as to whether your course schedule includes at least one program specific course required in your major, please contact your academic advisor or department.
