Open Spaces
CU-Boulder campus buildings are set around malls, courtyards, plazas, quadrangles, fields, greens, and gardens, creating a unified whole. Each open space is planned to be complimentary in scale to the buildings and other facilities around it, and most importantly, to be variable in size and importance to other adjacent or connecting open space. Floor surfaces vary from hardscape to softscape, and plantings are variable reflecting scale and environmental conditions. An important and necessary open space is parking lots and structures for campus user's vehicles. These require a sensitive fit into the campus environment.
