Symposium Description:

What does it take to build a sustainable school and campus in Sub-Saharan countries like Uganda and Kenya? It takes a lot more than one would think. Hear from industry experts about their own experiences through case studies. DLR Group's Sean Rosebrugh has workedto create a new Master Plan for Kenyatta University, which was once an old Kenyan military base. Hear how partnerships, foresight, and strategic decision making are working to create avibrant and successful community-based campus atmosphere. USGBC Colorado's Mandela Washington Fellow, Solophina Nekesa, Solophina Nekesa, a graduate architect from Uganda, will also share the work of Studio FH Architects in Uganda, on creating learning landscapesand culturally appropriate schools that encourage a more productive and comfortable learning environment while also meeting the needs of a growing population of students.

Join USGBC Colorado and DLR Group at University of Colorado's Program of Environmental Design's Building to hear about the path towards more sustainable design and development in Sub-Saharan Africa. This morning event will include a networking portion in the beginning served with coffee and a light breakfast, followed by the presentations. All are encouraged to attend, including University of Colorado students, staff and faculty.
