Dr. Wright's research examines personhood and shifting conceptions of justice and representation in British literature and culture of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. In addition to the development and theories of the novel, her interests include several topics that may be placed under the general heading of the history of ideas as reflected in literature, encompassing the history of science, the history of law, and changing theories of affect and emotion, along with African American fiction and poetry. Each of these interests, while apparently various, reflects her focus on witnessing, advocacy, and distanced representation, be it in the context of laboratory science, legal testimony, or minority self-assertion within mainstream culture.
