Spring 2017 Commencement

english graduation

Join us as we celebrate the accomplishments of graduating students at the English Department’s Commencement ceremony, Friday, May 12, 2017 in the Mary Rippon Theatre (the outdoor theater in the center of Hellems). We will host a casual reception at the north end of the theater beginning at 11:00 am; ceremony will begin at 11:30 am.

CU-Boulder’s Commencement ceremony is Friday, May 12, 2017, at 8:30 am in Folsom Stadium. Visit the commencement website for more information about the event, details for students graduating, and frequently asked questions about attending the event.

Please Note: This is an outdoor event; rain or shine, the ceremony will take place in the Mary Rippon Theatre.

Colorado weather in May can be unpredictable. We encourage guests to watch the weather forecast so they may plan and dress accordingly. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held in abbreviated form. While we don’t explicitly prohibit umbrellas, we ask that you dress appropriately for the weather and avoid reliance on umbrellas as they will obstruct the view of others and are a significant safety issue in a crowd.

Information for the Spring 2017 English Graduation Ceremony

A reception in the north end of the theater will precede the ceremony and will begin at 11:00 am. Graduating students should arrive no later than 11:10 am. The ceremony will be brief, but we need to allow enough time to individually recognize each undergraduate and graduate student.

Before the Ceremony

The Mary Rippon Theatre is located between the wings of the Hellems Building. Tables will be located at both entrances to the theater. Please stop at one of these tables and fill out a card with your name and your major(s). If you are receiving Honors, please indicate the designation. Keep the card with you. At 11:20, please proceed to the hallway outside the English Department office in Hellems 101. Graduates will be asked to line up, march to the auditorium for the procession, and sit in the reserved seats at the front of the theater. As you proceed to the stage, please hand your card to the Associate Chair for Undergraduate or Graduate Studies, depending on the degree you will receive.

General Commencement Information

Regalia is optional. The ceremony does provide a good opportunity for family members and friends to take photographs, so most graduates choose to wear caps and gowns. Please visit commencement.colorado.edu/students/caps-gowns/ for information on caps and gowns. Information regarding the University Commencement Ceremony is available at www.colorado.edu/commencement.

Parking

The Euclid Avenue AutoPark is the closest visitor parking lot. From Broadway, turn east onto Euclid Avenue. The parking lot is on the north side, just east of the University Memorial Center. Note: regular parking fees apply. See additional information regarding parking.
