Carin Knickel

Carin Knickel joined the College of Engineering and Applied Science as assistant dean for programs and talent in August 2012 following a 32-year career in the energy industry. As assistant dean, her primary goal is to develop highly effective programs and processes to assist the college as it grows in size and reputation. She served on the college’s Engineering Advisory Council from 2009 to 2012.

Her experience in the energy industry spans operations leadership in refining, marketing, transportation, exploration, and production for ConocoPhillips.  Additionally, she held roles in business development, strategic planning, and commodity trading, and led the company’s specialty products business from 2001 to 2003.  She became vice president of global human resources in 2003 and served on the company’s management committee from that time until she retired in mid-2012.

She has served as a board member for Colorado Special Olympics, Rebuilding Together – Houston, and was chairman of the Houston ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run, providing scholarships for Texas youth. 

Ms. Knickel holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Colorado Boulder and a master’s degree in management science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
