CU Wizards Program

Professor Jean Hertzberg of mechanical engineering presented "Too Hot to Handle" and "Go with the Flow" as part of the CU Wizards Program, one of the many K-12 outreach efforts promoting the study of science and engineering.

Do you know a child who likes to take things apart and rebuild them, or who asks questions like, "Why do the lights turn on when you flip the switch?"

If so, we encourage you to check out one of our Design Expos where undergraduate engineering students demonstrate their inventions and innovations to the community. These popular events are held each year in April and December, and are great fun for the entire family!

Our Integrated Teaching and Learning Laboratory  also is open for school group visits. Kids will love the interactive exhibits, which teach engineering concepts in fun and unusual ways. Visit the ITL website to learn more about this outstanding facility.

Brownies and Girl Scouts are invited to get involved with our Badge Days Program to explore the exciting world of engineering with their troop. Girls can work on merit badges with CU engineering students who lead after-school workshops. See how chemicals can be used to blow up a balloon or learn about the moon, planets, and stars.

The Colorado Space Grant Consortium sponsors hands-on activities related to space education for K-12 students.  The consortium offers group tours and workshops in the Discovery Learning Center at CU-Boulder as well as at local schools.

CU engineering faculty also participate in the CU Wizards Program, which hosts regular science and engineering events for K-12 students. CU Wizards shows are held monthly on the Boulder campus; see schedule in spotlight box at right.
