German Certificate

The following information is a guideline for students seeking to earn an International Engineering Certificate in German.

German Requirements (5 courses)

German Language (3 courses)

  • Three college-level German language courses taken at a level commensurate with the student's ability. Courses that repeat a student's prior knowledge of German will not apply toward this certificate;
  • Placement in language courses will be determined by the undergraduate advisor for German based on placement testing and/or examination of transcripts. For example: a beginner with no German background would take GRMN 1010, GRMN 1020, GRMN 2010, but a student with several years of high school German might take GRMN 2020, GRMN 3010, GRMN 3020;
  • Students with advanced German language proficiency should consult with Karey Sabol on appropriate additional coursework;

German Literature/Culture (2 courses)

  • Choose two college courses (6 credits) in German culture and/or literature. Students are strongly encouraged to take GRMN 3030 Business German;

Study Abroad: German credit earned on a CU-approved study abroad program can be accepted for language or culture credit with prior approval. For more information, please visit the CU Study Abroad Programs Office.

Transfer Credit: A maximum of 9 transfer credits or 6 AP credits may be applied toward certificate requirements.

Upon Completion of Requirements

Contact Karey Sabol to verify completion of all requirements for the certificate and request to have it added to your official transcript.
