New Internship Opportunities for Summer 2013!

School of Science, University of Tokyo, Summer Internship Program
Application Period: Jan. 15-March 1, 2013

This research internship is highly competitive with applicants from the U.S., UK, India, China and Canada. Approximately 25 applicants will be selected by academic standing, faculty recommendation, and research interests. Admission criteria are: either completion of second or third year by May 2013, be enrolled as an undergraduate student in either natural science or related area--engineering, must able to do full-time 6-week research internship in Japan, and write a final report and give a presentation. National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan,  Elite Internship Program
Application Deadline: Feb. 28, 2013

National Chiao Tung University, a top research university in Taiwan located next to the Hsinchu Science Park (the Silicon Valley of Asia), is offering a research internship opportunity for students in the U.S. for Summer 2013.  At least three CU students will be selected to participate in this program. Students need to have at least a 3.3 GPA and be interested in partnering with an NCTU faculty member in an area of research. Students complete the following: application form, curriculum vita (resume in English), internship proposal, CU transcript, letter of agreement from faculty advisor at CU, photocopy of student ID card, copy of the biodata passport info page and letters of recommendation. Students may also wish to explore these non-CU international internship opportunities:

  • Carl Duisberg Society (CDS) International offers many different programs. The Congress-Bundestag Program includes 2 months of intensive German, 4 months of attending a university and a 5-month internship. Participants need to be 18-24 years old. Most expenses are paid and no application fee is required. This program is competitive. The deadline is Dec. 1 for the following year. The CDS Internship Program offers paid internships in Germany, Spain, and Argentina. It also offers unpaid internships in Russia. The application deadline is Dec. 1 for the following summer.

  • The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) offers internships primarily in Finland and Sweden, and sometimes in Denmark and Norway. No knowledge of a foreign language is needed. It is for U.S. and permanent residents only.  Students must have previous work experience and a 2.5 GPA prior to applying for the internship. Position salaries cover basic living expenses. Students are responsible for their own airfare. There is an application fee and the deadline is Jan. 1 for the next summer.

  • The BUNAC Work Abroad Program will give you a work permit (for a fee) without having a job offer to work in Australia, Great Britain, Canada, Ireland, or New Zealand. Students must find their own jobs using the program’s listings. This program is only open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. 

  • The International Cooperative Education Program (ICEP) offers paid summer internships in Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, China, Japan, and Singapore.  Students should have the appropriate language coursework. Phone interviews will be conducted in the foreign language. There are electrical engineering, computer science, and mechanical engineering positions.  There is an application fee and a participation fee.
