Frederic A. Wardenburg

A noted administrator, he was initially employed by the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company, and later worked as electrical and power engineer for the American Smelting and Refining Company.
Six months after joining the DuPont Company, Mr. Wardenburg was made head of the light, heat, and power department, and in 1916 was transferred to the engineering department where he became assistant chief engineer in 1918.
In 1924 he was made a director of Lazote, Inc. and two years later was elected president. When Lazote was dissolved in 1929 to form the Du Pont Ammonia Corporation, Mr. Wardenburg became general manager of the new organization. He continued as general manager of the ammonia department, formed in 1931 by the dissolution of the corporation, and in 1939 was elected a director of the Du Pont Company. He was also a director and vice president of the National Ammonia Company, Inc., until that company was dissolved to be merged with the ammonia department in 1935.
When he retired in 1946, he retained membership on the board of directors.
Mr. Wardenburg and his late wife donated $1 million to the University of Colorado for the construction of a 54-bed student infirmary. The infirmary, named the Wardenburg Student Health Center, was dedicated in 1959. Mr. Wardenburg was awarded an honorary degree of doctor of science by the University of Colorado in 1960.
