Engineering Physics

Professor Murnane of Engineering Physics Program Wins 'Genius Award'

Professor Margaret Murnane taught a course on optics last year for students in the Engineering Physics Program, but it was no ordinary textbook presentation. A world leader in the development of high-tech lasers, Murnane recently won a prestigious MacArthur Fellowship, a $500,000 no-strings-attached grant dubbed the "Genius Award," in recognition of her achievements. Environmental Engineering

Four Departments Combine Expertise to Offer Flexible, Balanced Program

Now in its third year, the undergraduate degree program in Environmental Engineering (EVEN) is growing rapidly and will be celebrating with its third graduate in May 2001. Forty students are currently enrolled in the program.

The Environmental Engineering curriculum is comprised of courses offered through the departments of Aerospace Engineering Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. More than 20 faculty from these departments are affiliated with the program, giving it uncommon breadth and rigor. More

 

Applied Mathematics

Modeling Content Offers Challenges from Air Traffic to Wildlife Management

Applied mathematics is the systematic application of mathematical tools and strategies to solve problems in the real world. As such, the Department of Applied Mathematics seeks to provide experiences for its students to develop and test their computational, mathematical, and communication skills on real-world problems — both in and out of the classroom.
