Our Corporate Partners Partnerships with corporations and foundations across the country greatly enhance the College of Engineering and Applied Science's service to students, the state of Colorado, and the nation. Industry support and involvement in our academic programs allows students to work on real-world problems, gaining valuable experience with state-of-the-art technologies that will assist them in making the transition from school to work. At the same time, businesses have the opportunity to work closely with top students, getting a jump on recruiting future employees. In the process, they learn about continuing education opportunities for their employees and meet faculty who are conducting research in their areas of interest. The college sincerely thanks the many corporations and foundations that have contributed over $11 million to the college during 2001. Following are just a few of their stories, showing how these partnerships are working for the benefit of all. Hewlett-Packard Company As a key partner providing leading-edge technology to the award-winning Integrated Teaching and Learning Laboratory, the Hewlett-Packard Company is the college's most visible corporate sponsor. In fact, HP has the greatest overall record of corporate giving to the CU system, donating more than $13 million in grants and gifts in kind to the four campuses. More Agilent Technologies Since spinning off from Hewlett- Packard in 1999, Agilent Technologies, a worldwide maker of high-tech analysis equipment, has carried on the commitment to give generously. "We still have that culture within Agilent," says Kay Gilles, the company's director of university relations, based in Palo Alto, California. "Having a charitable or philanthropic effort is part of being a good corporate citizen." More Lockheed Martin Corporation From its support of hands-on learning in aerospace engineering and programs in engineering management, to research in visualization technology and the funding of student scholarships, Lockheed Martin Corporation also has been extensively involved in the college for many years. "We are interested in the growth and development of students as well as in helping the educational institution to understand the needs of industry," says Tom Marsh, president of Lockheed Martin Astronautics Operations in Denver, a 2001 Distinguished Engineering Alumnus and a member of the college's Engineering Advisory Council. More Bechtel Group, Inc. The college's partnership with the Bechtel Group stems from business interests as well as the personal philanthropy of Stephen Bechtel, Jr., chairman emeritus of the worldwide engineering and construction firm headquartered in San Francisco.
