Undergraduate Students Design and Build Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, continued

"I don't know of any other student project that has gone out and found this kind of support," says Charbel Farhat, chair of the AES department.

Other students working on the project include Michael Bertman, Matthew Bean, Lynn Berry, Eric Cain, Mark Donohue, Mark Middleton, Eric Pahl, Jarvis Songer and Greg Stack. The students held regular meetings with General Dynamics engineers throughout the last academic year to keep them updated and get feedback on the project.

"Ultimately, I would like to see the vehicle fly with little or no interaction with ground controllers, but for now, the team is focused on getting the aircraft flying safely," says Purvis.

While Purvis will graduate in May, some of the other group members who are juniors plan to do a follow-on project next year.
