Sponsoring Student Projects

ULA sponsored a student project to design and build a hybrid rocket motor
The college’s emphasis on active, hands-on learning, with capstone design projects required in every major, provides many opportunities for companies to meet and mentor students in projects related to their field. Some opportunities include:

  • Aerospace Senior Projects
"Customers" from both inside and outside the university may propose projects for the two-semester senior projects course sequence in the Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences. Students work in teams to meet project goals, devoting about 3,600 hours to the successful completion of a project. A project advisory board provides technical advice and oversight of projects.

  • Computer Science Senior Projects
Projects are developed under the direction of the course instructor and members of the sponsoring organization, and completed during the Department of Computer Science's two-course senior design sequence. Student teams have completed nearly 300 projects since the program was started in 1987.

  • ECEE Capstone Design Projects
Individual industry personnel are encouraged to participate with faculty to design and carry out projects at different levels of complexity in the electrical, computer, and energy engineering curriculum. The Department of Electrical, Computer, and Energy Engineering's industry liaison Tom Brown is a project manager/engineer with Agilent Technologies and has taught the senior ECEE Capstone Course for a number of years.

  • Mechanical Engineering Design Center Colorado
Does your company face a research, development or manufacturing problem that you don’t have the staffing to solve? If so, you may want to assign the project to students through the Design Center Colorado in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Industry sponsors benefit from new ideas, gain an edge in recruiting top students, and obtain a tested, functional piece of hardware with documentation at the end of the year-long project.
