Martin Dunn, who served as chair of mechanical engineering for the last five years, was appointed associate dean for research in August 2009. He succeeds Chris Bowman of chemical and biological engineering, who served as associate dean for the last two years.
Dunn holds the Victor Schelke Endowed Chair and is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. His areas of expertise include micro/nanomechanics of materials and structures, shape-memory and light-activated polymers, and the mechanics and physics of lithium-ion batteries.
