The college's aerospace engineering sciences department garnered a first-place, $15,000 award for undergraduate student achievement as well as a second-place, $5,000 award for graduate student achievement in the first annual President's Awards for Academic Leadership last fall.

The CU-Boulder physics department received the first-place award for graduate student achievement, while the CU-Colorado Springs chemistry department took second place in undergraduate student achievement.

The awards were created to recognize academic programs whose students demonstrate consistent, extraordinary achievement at the national or international level and to symbolize the premium CU places on teaching, research, and creative work and service that foster quality education. A committee representing the offices of President Bruce Benson and the chancellors of all three campuses selected the winners.
