Program Options

Chemical Engineering

The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering offers eight curriculum plans for the Bachelor of Science degree so that a student can develop a tailored educational experience:

• standard curriculum
• computer option
• environmental option
• materials option
• microelectronics option
• bioengineering option
• pre-medicine curriculum
• Cooperative Education study plans

The courses of the ChE curricula are divided into four categories:

• required technical courses (88 cr hrs)
• technical and chemistry electives (18 cr hrs)
• humanities & social science (H&SS) courses, including electives (18 cr hrs)
• free electives (4 cr hrs)

The standard curriculum provides you the most freedom in the choice of your technical elective courses. The option curricula structure the technical elective courses to fulfill the theme of the option. The pre-medicine curriculum satisfies the typical requirements for admission to medical school. All curricula satisfy the requirements of the national Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). If you complete the requirements of one of the options, you will receive a certificate from the Department in addition to your University diploma.

Chemical and Biological Engineering

The Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical and Biological Engineering has two curriculum options:

• standard curriculum
• pre-medicine curriculum

The standard curriculum courses are subdivided into the following categories:

• required technical courses (104 cr hrs)
• technical electives (6 cr hrs)
• humanities & social science (H&SS) courses, including electives (18 cr hrs)
