Engineering 2020: Vision for Excellence

You are here

The college's mission is to generate new knowledge in engineering and related fields and to equip students from diverse backgrounds as future leaders and responsible citizens in these fields for the betterment of individuals and society.

Our vision is to be a world leader in engineering research and education, with an emphasis on integrated and discovery learning and on engineering for global society.

The vision of the College of Engineering and Applied Science at CU-Boulder is to be a recognized world leader for excellence and innovation in engineering research and education. The premier engineering school in the Rocky Mountain Region, our college is aspiring to be ranked in the top 20 of all colleges nationally. We are already ranked 34th among public institutions, and three of our six departments are ranked in the top 20 graduate programs in the country, according to the most recent rankings by U.S. News and World Report.

As of spring 2014, our Engineering 2020 strategic plan has been refreshed and updated to reflect the dynamic growth and change our college has seen in the past few years. The refreshed plan for the college projects a doubling of engineering enrollments to more than 8,000 students and research awards totaling almost $135 million annually. A number of new programs and buildings will also support this growth in the college - all founded on the core values of global engineering, inclusive excellence and discovery learning.

We invite you to read the refreshed strategic plan and to join us in transforming the College of Engineering and Applied Science at CU-Boulder. We are proud to be associated with an institution that is preparing engineers and researchers for the 21st century, where change will take us to new frontiers.
