Literature
Digital Dante
Digital Dante is an on-line multimedia resource which
combines original sources, scholarly research, and resources for communication.
It's goal is to provide a multimedia interface to Dante which will foster
the reading of his work in an innovative way and to support collaborative
efforts, or "social construction" as a scholarly activity.
Salman Rushdie
Paul Brians' Notes on Salmon Rushdie and The Satanic
Verses displays the versatility of the web as a publishing medium.
Brians' study guide for Rushdie's complex novel provides background information,
discussions of major themes, chapter summaries, translations and brief
explanations of obscure words. The study guide also contains links to
related resources on the web such as newspaper articles, Indian popular
music and film, and multiple viewpoints on the Rushdie controversy. For
a description of the advantages and disadvantages of publishing on the
web, see "Annotating The Satanic Verses: An Example of Internet
Research and Publication" by Paul Brians, Dept. of English, WA State University,
in the journal Computers and the Humanities, 33: 247-264, 1999.
