The University of Colorado Engineering Council (UCEC)

by Sean Gaydos (junior, ArchEng), past president

The UCEC is the College's student government, which is made up of an executive council plus representatives from the various student societies. We try to provide a forum for students to communicate with the administration and to discuss important issues. One way this is now happening is with weekly dinners hosted by the associate dean for Undergraduate Affairs, David Dilaura. Up to 15 interested students a week can participate simply by signing up.

Recent UCEC projects include: the Career Fair, which UCEC helped organize, and for which UCEC provided a resume book; t-shirt sales to raise money to send four members to a national conference in Illinois at the end of October; a daily student planner, which is given to freshmen and new transfer students and offered for sale to others; and plans to remodel the front foyer of the Engineering Center and the Real McCoy Grill.

Next April, we will be hosting a regional conference for engineering student councils, and we have already heard from several schools who are planning to send students. We are really excited about this, and we encourage anyone who would like to help to please contact Cris Dozier, chair of the Regional Conference Planning Committee and UCEC secretary (dozier@colorado.edu). Also in April, soon after the conference, we will be hosting our annual E-Days, and anyone interested in helping should contact Eric Peers (peers @colorado.edu). We hope that students will feel free to attend our meetings, every other Monday at 5 p.m. in CR 2-26, and to contact us anytime at e-mail: ucec@ucsu.colorado.edu.
