Students, Faculty
Collaborate on Telecommunications Research, continued
This is but one of the several
ongoing research projects in the Department of Applied Mathematics.
Supported by a $2.5 million VIGRE grant from the National Science
Foundation and another $1.25 million CCHE Excellence grant, the
department has made great strides in encouraging undergraduate majors,
graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and faculty to participate
together in research projects. In addition to the nonlinear waves
problem described above, other areas of interest include the interface
between ordered systems and chaos, recurrence patterns in waves,
fast algorithms and computational methods for fluid flow within
the eye.
The Department of Applied
Mathematics offers both a bachelor of science degree and a minor
in applied math to students in the College of Engineering and Applied
Science, as well as MS and PhD degrees through the Graduate School.
The department's 15 faculty members teach over 3,000 students each
year and carry out numerous research projects. The Department of
Applied Mathematics is working to foster mathematical knowledge,
computational and communication skills in all of its students through
coursework, internships, research and service. amath.colorado.edu/appm
