growing undergraduate program in the College of Engineering and
Applied Science, the Environmental Engineering Program saw a three-fold
increase in enrollment from 1999 to 2000. Established in Fall 1998,

Engineering Physics Ranks First in Atomic Physics
The Engineering Physics
Program focuses on the physical foundations of modern technology,
preparing students for research, development, and entrepreneurial
careers in many frontier areas of engineering. Examples include
quantum devices, ultra fast lasers, adaptive optics, cryogenic electronics,
computer simulation of physical systems, solar cells, magnetic storage
technology, micro-mechanical systems, and molecular electronics.

Engineering Management Courses Gain in Popularity as Technical Electives
Graduate and undergraduate
courses offered by the Lockheed Martin Engineering Management Program
are increasingly being chosen by students as technical electives
in their degree programs. In the latter part of 1998, the program
launched initiatives to increase the visibility of these courses
and create an opportunity for undergraduate engineering majors to
take an integrated set of technical electives in business and management.
In addition, more spaces were made available in graduate courses
for students not enrolled in the program. More
