Alumni Survey

Alumni Survey Shows Broad Satisfaction

As part of the accreditation process for the national Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, the College of Engineering and Applied Science mailed a survey to 17,238 college alumni in fall 1999. The college was astounded to receive 3,456 responses, or 20 percent of the surveys that were sent out.

The survey contains a wealth of data that will be used to guide planning and improve programs and services for engineering students. Following is a look at the survey results.

About 82 percent of the respondents had one degree from CU-Boulder, 17 percent had two degrees, and 1 percent had 3 degrees from the campus. The average respondent was enrolled in the college for eight semesters and had one career-related summer job or internship. Fifty-eight percent had a scholarship or other financial aid as a student; 19 percent changed their major at some time.

Since graduation, the average respondent has had nine jobs or positions with four different employers. Twenty-six percent currently work in management positions. Fifty-three percent work at sites with 100 or more employees; 82 percent work at companies that have work sites in other locations. More
